Blood clots

Blood clots form when substances in the blood thicken and create a semi-solid mass. This process can be triggered by an injury. At times, it occurs within blood vessels that do not have an obvious injury.

Once these clots form, they can travel to other parts of the body, where they can cause damage. There are various factors and conditions that can cause troublesome blood clots, and some serious conditions are associated with them.

Female astronauts often take contraceptive pills when embarking on a space mission. This contraceptive method contains estrogen, significantly increasing a woman’s risk of forming a blood clot.
