Our initial encounter occurred through a scholarship for a national science camp. Green was the colour of the camp, so, when we decided to create a team to enter Conrad Challenge, we chose BeAl(SiO) -the symbol of emerald- as our name. The ultrasound domain is overseen by Diego and Eugenia, with Carmen taking charge of the nanobots. Each team member has a unique role within the group. Diego serves as our computer expert and handles marketing duties; Carmen acts as the team manager, facilitating progress and promptly resolving issues; while Eugenia assumes the conciliatory role, being pragmatic, instilling belief in the team, and fostering harmony with other group members.
Our joint objective is twofold: to aid individuals and confront a challenge that pushes us to exceed our boundaries. Fueled by curiosity, various issues have captured our attention, but our primary focus has been on assisting those in need. As a team, we unanimously selected the healthcare sector, and this choice laid the groundwork for our innovative concept.
Carmen Vico
My name is Carmen Vico, and I am 16 years old. Ever since I can remember, I have been passionate about science, particularly the functioning of the human body and biochemistry. Currently, I am enrolled in the Research and Excellence Baccalaureate here in Spain. I would like to study biomedical sciences, biochemistry, or biomedical engineering.
I have already participated in various science-related initiatives, but the most significant for me was winning the Top Scientist competition organized by the 3M company, which allowed me to travel to the United States to present my research project when I was 14.
In the future, I aspire to engage in research with the goal of improving people’s lives.
Eugenia Pilar Vispe
My name is Eugenia Pilar Vispe and I am 17 years old. I am from the Benasque Valley (Huesca, Spain). Since I was very small I have loved science, above all, maths and astrophysic. I remember when I was a child and my father and I used his phone to see the constellations and the planets, I will never forget that feeling of euphoria and passion for something that is millions of kilometers away. I would like to study mathematics and physics or aerospace engineering. on the other hand, I have 2 different hobbies, classical ballet and swimming.
I have already participated in many science initiatives, like the science week in the university of Zaragoza, the national science campus, all the science competitions organized by the Pedro Pascual Science Center, I even applied for the scholarship offered by novo nordisk (Future Scientists Summer Camp).
You have to fight for your dreams and science for me is that, my passion, my world, my form of help to society, it represents the place where I feel myself and when you find that you can’t let go so easily.
Diego Fernández
I am Diego Fernández and I’m 16. I’ve always liked science. My favorite branches of science are mathematics and physics, although I find all sciences really interesting. I enjoy the Olympiad exercises that my maths teacher usually gives me so that I can level up my problem-solving skills.
Growing up, I’ve also been interested in literacy and journalism, and I love sports, so at 8 I created a blog (superfutboler.blogspot.com) where I published information and reports about many events and interviewed some great athletes -for example, Federico Martín Bahamontes, the first Spaniard to ever win Le Tour de France, and Vicente del Bosque, the coach of the Spanish men’s national football team when it won its only World Cup.
Moreover, I compete in cycling and study piano in the Conservatory of Valladolid.
